  1. How do your rates compare with other water taxi companies?
  1. Darling Harbour Water Taxis has been operating with very competitive rates for more than 10 years. We want your business so if you manage to find a cheaper quote please let us know and we will adjust our prices to ensure you get the best possible price along with the best service in Sydney.

  1. How are your fares calculated?
  1. Darling Harbour water Taxis calculate the rates in 4 ways to ensure you get the best possible deal.
  1. Price per person. This is a discounted price to Sydney’s most popular destinations on a shared Water Taxi.

  2. Private hire. Hire your own private WaterTaxi with a flag fall rate dependent on the distance travelled, which covers the first 4 passengers. Additional passengers are charged at $10 for adults and $5 for children aged 4 to 16.

  3. Hourly rate of $250 per hour for 6 passengers plus an additional $10 for each extra adult and $5 for each extra child.

  4. Group discounts. Call us for a quote for your group discount. Prices drop on a sliding scale down to $5 per person for large groups.

  1. Do you have group discounts?
  1. Yes we do. Call us for a quote and we will work out the best deal for your group. (see Q&A above).

  1. Where can your water taxis pick me up?
  1. We can pick you up at any public wharf, private jetty, beach, private or cruise boat and island within Sydney Harbour. The owner’s permission is required from all private property.

  1. What type of boats can we travel in?
  1. In our experience most people want to ride in a water taxi to see the magnificent view and smell the fresh sea air on the way to their destination. Not stuck inside trying to see through a salt encrusted window.
Therefore we have several 16 seat taxis with open sides, so you can sit back and enjoy. If the weather turns nasty the plastic clears can be lowered to keep you warm and dry.

These tough fibreglass boats have an inflatable rubber pontoon, which makes them superior in stability and virtually unsinkable. They also act as a cushion to protect jetties and boats alike which is why we are the cruise boats first choice when a water taxi is needed.

We also have a large aluminium water taxi, which is built for even the worst weather conditions. As Sydney’s largest water taxi, it seats 50 people. All our vessels are fully carpeted and spotlessly clean.

  1. How many passengers can your water taxis take?
  1. A. Our smaller water taxis seat 16 passengers.

Our large water taxi seats 50 passengers.

Darling Harbour Water Taxis can cater for 1 to 200 passengers or more with advanced notice. As Sydney’s largest fleet we can have all your party arrive at the same time, so no one is left waiting at a wharf for the second or third trip as with other companies.

  1. How long does the average trip take?
  1. The average trip takes 15 to 20 minutes depending on the distance and Maritime speed restrictions.

Let us know what time you need to be at your destination and we will set a time accordingly. With the fastest water taxis in Sydney we can always put the throttle down to get you there on time (always safely), or slow down for those all-important photos.

  1. Can your taxis drop me off at a beach?
  1. Yes.
Our larger vessel is equipped with beach landing facilities, and unlike other companies we won’t apply a surcharge for this service.

  1. Do I need to book in advance?
  1. A. With Sydney’s largest water taxi fleet we try to keep a taxi on stand by for last minute bookings. However to be sure, an advanced booking will always secure your water taxi at your desired time, especially in the late hours or with large groups.

We have water taxis leaving regularly from our sales office on the marina in Cockle Bay. So if you are in the area just come and see our staff to organise a water taxi for you.

  1. What are your hours of operation?
  1. Darling Harbour Water Taxis provide a 24/7 service for all bookings.
Our sales office in Cockle Bay is open from 9am till late daily.
Please call 02 9211 7730 anytime for bookings and information.

  1. Can I hire your water taxi by the hour?
  1. Yes,
It is often cheaper to hire by the hour when you just want to get out on the harbour and have a look around, or to keep a taxi on stand by for a corporate function etc.

  1. Will your water taxis stop for photo opportunities?
  1. Yes.
Darling Harbour Water Taxis are here to give you the experience you will remember. Our skippers have a vast knowledge of the harbour and can suggest the best spots to get a great photo available only on the water.

Unlike other companies we won’t charge extra for the opportunity.

  1. Do you take passengers to other boats already in the Harbour?
  1. Yes.
If you have missed your cruise boat or want to meet friends on their yacht we will take you to them. Our fibreglass taxis with the inflatable rubber sides are perfect for coming safely along side without causing any damage to the other vessel.

  1. What is the area you operate in?
  1. We operate in all of Sydney Harbour, Parramatta River and Middle Harbour.
From Homebush to Manly and Roseville and all areas in between.

  1. Can I travel to the Harbour Islands in Darling Harbour Water Taxis?
  1. Yes.
Darling Harbour Water Taxis are licensed by the National Parks And Wildlife Service to land on all the Harbour Islands.

You will need to contact NPWS to book your time on the island and they will charge a small fee. With advanced notice Darling Harbour Water Taxis can do this for you.

  1. Are your taxis equipped with life jackets?
  1. Yes.
NSW Maritime has the highest standards in the world for safety equipment on commercial vessels. All our Water Taxis are fitted with safety equipment exceeding this high standard.

In over 10 years of operating Darling Harbour Water Taxis still have not needed to use any emergency equipment.

  1. Does anyone ever get seasick on your water taxis?
  1. No.
Due to the design of the vessels and the calm waters of Sydney Harbour no one has ever been or reported feeling seasick on our Water Taxis.

  1. Can I choose the route taken by your water taxi?
  1. Yes.
You can choose the route you would like to take. A per hour charge will be applied for this service and you are only limited by the NSW Maritime rules within the Harbour.
